A quick travel and photography trip to Port Barton.
Port Barton is quiet fishing village right in between Puerto Princesa and El Nido. It’s a nice retreat from the busy tourist spots. It’s another great place for island hopping, where you won’t find the huge crowds as in El Nido and Coron. You’ll find thousands in El Nido. So it’s for good reason that Port Barton is becoming a popular destination among travellers. It’s easily reached by minivan and makes a nice stop from the long 6 hour bus ride between Puerto Princesa and El Nido. Don’t expect much action here though. It’s a quiet place with a nice variety of bars. A few of which play music at night and maybe a band or singer somewhere.
I went by motorbike though from Puerto Princesa (150km) and only stayed overnight. So I didn’t get to do any island hopping. The ride was great, but very hot. And you simply can’t drive for more than an hour on an XRM without getting a sore bum. Especially after having spend so much time the week before on buses and boats with wooden seats. It was quite an uncomfortable ride, but worth it.
Driving at Palawan is really easy. There’s only 1 main road going from the north to the south and the side roads are pretty easy to find. The main road is cemented, but often parts of the side roads are still dirt roads. They’re easy enough to drive on, but take it easy, quite a few foreigners do fall.
Port Barton accommodation
There’s plenty of accommodation in Port Barton and even despite the high season it seemed there were plenty of rooms, but we didn’t really put much effort into it and simply got the first room available at one of the guesthouses located on the beach. Also there are a lot of food options for decent prices and the front beach is nice to chill and the water great to swim in. There’s just a lot of boats, so space is a bit limited sometimes.
